OUR SCRAN VAN
Inspire is a purpose built facility, inclusive for all young people age 8-19 (25 with additional needs), providing them with a safe space to spend their leisure time, positive role models and access to hot, nutritious meals.
For every young person that enters our building, it costs on average £20 and for every meal we serve, it costs us an additional £3.50. We know that to be accessible to all, we cannot charge those prices, so as a charity, we subsidise those costs to ensure cost is not a barrier. To enter the building we charge 50p and for a meal, we charge £1 – if that still puts a barrier to entry, we cover the cost of both in its entirety.
However, we also know that cost isn’t the only obstacle for young people to enter our building. Chorley is a huge borough and although we have a central location, some struggle to get here. For others, it may be that the Youth Zone itself isn’t the right environment for them, or they don’t want to actively engage.
So how do we ensure we are reaching those young people?

Powered by Cadent, our scran van heads out each week, going to the hardest to reach communities, delivering free food for young people. Whilst ensuring they have access to hot food and drinks, the van also doubles up as a powerful youth work tool, working as a great hook to start conversations with young people who would otherwise be hesitant to engage.
To date, we have already given out over 1000 free meals through the scran van and this number is only going to keep climbing. Currently heading out to Clayton Brook, Buttermere, Coppull and Adlington we’re incredibly proud of the impact that the scran van has had and are so grateful to Cadent for their sponsorship allowing it to happen. It’s music to our ears when we turn up to these locations and young people are already waiting for us chanting ‘Scran Van’ as we park up. Particularly throughout the cold winter months with the cost of living crisis, this support has been so vital for many.
